TANGRAMS
Math is a tool we use every day. It helps us solve problems and make good decisions. Math is part of our school work and our daily tasks. It teaches us how to think clearly and logically. A strong understanding of math makes life easier and more organized.
One of the first math skills we learn in school is telling time. We learn to read both clocks and digital displays. This skill helps us plan our day and be on time for classes. It shows us how numbers work together. Knowing how to tell time builds a strong base for more advanced math skills.
Counting money is another important math skill. Many jobs, like working at a restaurant, require careful money handling. For example, at McDonald’s, employees must give the right change to customers. This task needs quick and correct addition and subtraction. By counting money, we learn to manage our finances and handle transactions clearly.
Reading a ruler is a key skill in measurement. A ruler has marks that show different lengths. When we read a ruler, we learn to measure objects like paper, fabric, or wood. This skill is used in building, sewing, and many other tasks. Accurate measurements help us work safely and reduce mistakes.
Math also teaches us how to convert from one unit to another. This means changing inches to centimeters or pounds to kilograms. Many jobs need this skill to ensure measurements are correct. Converting units is important in fields like cooking, science, and construction. It helps everyone use the same standards and work with precision.
In conclusion, math is a very important life skill. It helps us every day in school, at work, and at home. Learning to tell time, count money, read rulers, and convert units makes our tasks easier. These skills also promote clear and logical thinking. A good grasp of math leads to greater success in many parts of life.

Ruler
Draw an 8 inch by 8 inch square.
Mark every 1/2 inch on all 4 sides
Using a ruler to draw straight lines, connect the bottom right corner to the top right mark(see image). Continue to draw stright lines as you move to a new mark. As your ruler move up on the right, the top tick mark moves left. (See image. )
Continue by rotating your paper 90 degrees. Ignore the lines you have drawn and do the same thing. Start on the bottom right corner and make a straight line to the top right tick mark just like in step 4. Continue moving the ruler up the left side and moving the to the next top tick mark left. (See image)
Continue the last 2 corners like you did in steps 4 and 5.
Put your name in the Middle. So others know that this art is yours.
Keep this page until we go into the shop.
This is proof you know how to use a ruler and you are ready to go into the shop.
WARNING: If there are any not straight lines you will need to do this over again.
Section 4- Laser Engraving
Using a laser to cut out wood or engrave engrave does not require a lot of math , However you will practice your basic math skills to create 2 custom made coasters to take home. We will practice measuring a peice of wood to create these coasters on the computer.
Here are the Requirements:
1. Measure with a ruler and correctly set up your project on your computer
2. Find a funny quote and school appropriate image to laser engrave on your coaster.
3. Use the correct link to submit your file to Mr.Kendell so we can create your project.
